Why a smart panel

A traditional panel is a black box. Yours doesn’t have to be.

You can’t manage what you can’t see

A standard panel hides everything behind a steel cover — you learn an appliance is failing or wasting power when the bill arrives or the breaker trips. Phantom loads alone can quietly eat 20 to 30% of a home’s electricity. SPAN shows every circuit in real time, so the waste has nowhere to hide.

Every heavy load you add fights for room

An EV charger, a heat pump, an induction range, a heated pool, a sauna — each is a major load, and a conventional panel often forces a costly service upgrade to add them. SPAN balances loads automatically, so you can add what you want and skip the upgrade in many cases.

Backup that’s frozen the day it’s installed

With a battery and a traditional panel, the circuits it backs up are locked in at install — chosen years before the outage you actually face. SPAN lets you re-prioritize from the app in the moment, so the battery protects what matters that day.

What the SPAN panel actually does

SPAN replaces your main electrical panel with an intelligent one: up to 32 individually controllable circuits, a 200-amp main, and a built-in gateway (Wi-Fi, ethernet, and cellular backup) tied to the SPAN Home app. Every circuit is metered and switchable — so you see exactly what your home draws, room by room, and can shut any circuit off from your phone, even from the lake house.

The benefits high-end homeowners actually feel

Built for the home that has everything — or will

SPAN is the panel for a home running real load: two EVs in the garage, a heat pump, a heated pool, a sauna, a wine room, a home theater. It’s NEMA 3R rated for indoor or outdoor placement, meets the UL 1741 PCS standard for power-control safety, and integrates cleanly with Tesla Powerwall (2, +, and 3) and FranklinWH. Adding solar, a battery, or an EV — or building from scratch? This is the do-it-once-and-do-it-right path. (SPAN truly comes alive paired with a battery; an internet connection is required for the app and over-the-air updates.)

Doing a renovation, adding solar and storage, or future-proofing a forever home? A SPAN panel turns “we’ll deal with capacity later” into “already handled.”
Why DC Electric for SPAN

A smart panel is only as smart as its install

Configured, not just installed

We don’t leave a box on the wall. Every circuit is named, grouped, and prioritized in the app, and we walk you through running your home from your phone.

Battery & solar integration

Tesla Powerwall and FranklinWH integrated cleanly, backup priorities set the way you actually live, and ready for solar now or later.

Load study done right

We size the main, map every circuit, and tune load management so heavy additions fit — the difference between a smart panel that helps and one that nags.

Permits & utility handled

City permit, inspection, and utility coordination (Austin Energy / Oncor / PEC / Bluebonnet) — all managed for you.

Certified & warrantied

Certified SPAN installers, the install backed in writing, equipment under its manufacturer warranty.

EV-ready by design

Pair SPAN with the SPAN Drive or any Level 2 charger and manage charging speed against the rest of the home (see EV charger installation).

What You Get

The standard your home should expect.

Electricians who advise, not upsell

Our team does the work and lays out your options, so you choose the right solution — not the most expensive one.Which means the recommendation you get is the one your home actually needs.

The right materials, every time

We install one tier of equipment: the high-end brands we trust to last. Cheap parts are never a good value, so we don’t offer them.Which means what goes into your walls today is still working in twenty years.

We take the time to do it right

We’re not paid to rush. We take the time the job actually needs and stand behind the result until it’s right.Which means the work is done right the first time — and made right if it ever isn’t.

How a SPAN install goes

From walk-through to app in hand

A clean, planned upgrade — not a science project.

1

Design consultation

We review your goals — backup, solar, EVs, the loads you run — and design the panel and circuit map around how you actually live.

2

Flat-price proposal

One clear number, in writing, with the equipment and scope spelled out. Permits and utility coordination are ours to handle.

3

Install & integration

We swap the panel, integrate your battery and solar, and bring every circuit online — clean, labeled, to code.

4

App setup & walk-through

We set priorities, name every circuit, and hand you a home you can run from your phone.

Thinking about solar, a battery, or a second EV? Let’s design the panel once, for all of it.

Common Questions

Answers before you book

What can I actually do from the SPAN app?
See every circuit’s draw in real time, shut any circuit on or off remotely (even away from home), set and change battery-backup priorities, schedule heavy loads, and get alerts. It’s your home’s electrical system on a screen.
Can SPAN help me avoid a service upgrade?
Often, yes. Because SPAN limits and balances total power draw automatically, it can let you add an EV charger, heat pump, or other heavy load without paying for a service upgrade. We confirm it with a load study for your home.
Do I need a battery or solar for SPAN to be worth it?
No — the monitoring, control, and load management stand on their own. But SPAN is at its best paired with a Tesla Powerwall or FranklinWH battery, where flexible, re-prioritizable backup and longer runtime really shine.
How much longer will my battery last with SPAN?
SPAN estimates around 40% more backup runtime, and because it can shed non-essential circuits, a 13.5 kWh battery that might back a whole home for a few hours can stretch to well over a day on essential loads.
What batteries and chargers does SPAN work with?
Tesla Powerwall (2, +, and 3) and FranklinWH, plus the SPAN Drive EV charger and other Level 2 chargers. It uses standard 1-inch residential breakers with a 200-amp main.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The panel keeps distributing power normally without internet; you simply lose remote app features until it’s back. SPAN has Wi-Fi, ethernet, and a cellular backup connection, and updates itself over the air.
Is SPAN worth the premium over a standard panel?
If you value visibility, control, flexible backup, and the room to keep adding modern loads, yes. If you just need a basic panel swap with no smart features, a standard upgrade may suit you — we’ll tell you straight which fits your goals (see panel upgrades).
